Touch Time vs. Task Duration in Microsoft Project

In R&D there is a huge gap between the total task time and the actual touch time of each employee on that task. Does anyone know a way in Project to schedule your gannt chart off of task duration but manage your resources (mostly personnel) off of the actual touch time for each task so that no one day is over or under sceduled? Alternatively, can you originally plan to accommodate your specific needs within the project plan prepared? I haven't got a background in R&D. So, Apologies if this is a stupid response.

I am using recurring tasks. The idea being that the touch-time is a virtual meeting. It's not perfect but it let's me get the cost closer.
