When preparing an estimate/proposal what is the structure to organise work and material estimate? Do you use a custom, in house method or a structure such as Masterformat or Uniformat ?

What is done in your region? in your organisation?
is it require by the client organisation?

For the construction part, I use the Division 16 but for the overall project, I use a custom made template for our company which details, categorizes & cost codes everything and yes, it is required by the clients especially that we do feasibility studies.

Thanks Rami,

The custom template is base on Division 16, or division 16 is for specific parts.

The division 16 is for the Construction Estimate. The overall figure from this estimate is part of the over project budget (Hard + Soft Cost) which is a template we use in our company with cost codes that we've established to suit our accounts, clients & lenders.

I have not done estimating in a long time but when I used to do it in the oil & gas industry, project owner side, we had our own structures

Base on experience of previous project, and adjusted for new technologies I suspect.

Thanks for the clarification. Divison 16 is part of MasterFormat, it is the electrical portion in the 1995 edition.

The division 16 itself is the electrical but I meant by Division 16, the whole 16 divisions - See below:

Make sense unless you just do the electrical part of construction.
No plan to move to Uniformat better adapt to BIM from my reading?

Hmmm even if you do electrical only, you still have to use other divisions, not all though.

Uniformat works for Design-Build Companies who uses BIM or Rivet but not for project management consultants - This is my opinion

Rami,

Agree a Project Management Consultant should not be doing the estimate.

I never said that Vincent. On the contrary, we as PM Consultants do all the estimates.
