I believe it is a good reference to go back and check any time but I think it is a good idea to frequently read the Guide and answer challenging exam questions. Saving Changes...
In terms of reading the full document more than once, I'd say no, but I frequently reference it.
When the Sixth Edition was published, I did speed read it cover-to-cover to be able to get that changes webinar produced in a timely manner.
While teaching PMP Prep courses, even though with the Velociteach product I have a separate textbook, I will occasionally draw learners' attention to specific passages or wording in the PMBOK Guide.
And when it comes to creating or updating courseware for our PM courses, as a REP, we do use specific images from the Guide as well as referencing excerpts.

I refer to it pretty often. I have been setting in place structures for project reporting for my internal team of PMs and the PMBOK has been invaluable.
During projects, I do keep going back to the guide to see if there are any practices I can incorporate for unique scenarios. I haven't come across a viable example, yet, but hope springs eternal. Saving Changes...
For PMBOK 5th ed, I use it very frequently in pdf format. I have put many notes to it, for reference. I can search the notes using word or colour, yes I use colour.

I haven't looked at the PMBOK once since I got my PMP in 2008. I needed it to pass the test, but I didn't find it terribly useful. Instead, I read Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep book to clarify the concepts described in the PMBOK and learn how to practically apply them. I still have Rita's book, but I haven't a clue where my PMBOK got to. Saving Changes...
