Family could be loved ones or friends too. And it could also be any role in the project management domain.

My family associates project management with running IT projects. One child in the family asked "is it fun"? I answered "Sometimes".

What does your family, friends or loved ones think of your chosen profession?

My family also associates project management with running ICT and research projects. Sometimes they feel it is entering in our day to day life as well.

I hear you Rajeev. It isn't the first time I've been told by someone "I'm not a project."

Sante, you raised good point. My family don't think of any IT related to project management at all because they have seen me since beginning I do erection, mounting, installation & commissioning of electrical equipment for power generation or substation or erection of industrial mills from flat ground to production and then I also do O&M. till next project as you know my background is Electrical engineering and I also look into Mechanical and Civil Construction of the project as a whole.

They feel proud and dignity as big Engineer handling these big projects, honestly Sante I my self can't see or don't understand that many project manager with IT background I see the IT guy in our mill just doing computer connections setting email or watching cyber security or providing muse / keyboard to staff when needed so he has no project to carry out even if there is migration in SAP enterprise software it would be done through head office, I don't consider if he upgrade few printers as a project.

But I am not saying there isn't more than that, there might be more than that as big & significant IT projects in some other business like you are working for Cisco networking technology or Oracle databases and applications.

I'm sure your family is proud of you Riyadh, that's great :-)

Actually there are some pretty huge projects in my domain like enterprise mobility. Sometimes it's hard to see but it happens all around us in organizations.

My wife used to be a project manager, so she knows. My kids think I sit at a computer all day. Which isn't all that inaccurate I suppose.

Andrew, if it runs in the family, it must make life a little easier.

I regularly have family members telling me "Don't project manage me!". However, I do more subtly use some of our common tools in day-to-day life to get things done...

My husband and I work at the same company so he understands what I do so no biggie. However, my daughter just thinks I sit at a computer telling people what to do.
