the only updates to the PMBOK Guide are made as part of the overall release of a new edition so since 2013 the September 2017 release was the next one. I'd expect that other industry standards such as ASQ's would be one input considered while the volunteer committee was reviewing that chapter.
It would be nice that any external standards be consider and a reference to the version use should be indicated!

There are so many ISO standards related to quality, and it is only one chapter of quality in PMBOK guide so I don't see that they can cover all references. but if they do it would definitely be nice and easy to expand. Saving Changes...
I think the Quality section of the PMBOK is sufficient for project management purposes.

Sante - thanks...
The question is not about the PMBOK content (which I think is good), is regarding the relationship btw the two or the methods used to update. (references, versions, etc.)

Thanks George. I'm not sure how often the quality standards are updated, but the PMBOK was 3-4 years since the previous version. So if the quality standards get updated once a year (for example), then they would outpace the PMBOK release until the next version.

So ASQ has multiple standards, all of which are aligned to some ISO standard. Further, each quality certification has it's own BOK. I wouldn't say the PMBOK is "aligned" to ASQ standards but from a PM perspective it's good enough.
Similarly, the ASQ green/ black belt BOKs have sections on project management; they aren't aligned to the PMBOK but gives a very high overview Saving Changes...
