Does the project Manager allowed to express his/her own views when it comes to political or religious analysis ? or the PM should be tight lipped.

Topics such as religion or politics are preferably left outside of the workplace.
It's best to avoid conflict on matters that have no relevance on the delivery of your project.

On the other side, the key question is: what value it will add? remembering value is something subjective then you must know your stakeholders to know about value. Your team of group are stakeholders too. If it will add value go ahead. Beyond a project manager you are a human being of course.

I agree with Andrew, neither are appropriate in a work environment. I do occasionally in private ask my team to share their heritage and background to allow me to increase my cultural knowledge and have learned a great deal this way.

In my country we have a statement that could be follow as a rule: never talk about football (futbol), religion and politic even with your closer relative or best friend.
Sergio I like how you related to football as I am also one of the football fan, like few from your country like Maradona, Sergio Aguero, Omar Sivori, and goalkeeper Sergio Romero
others from Portuguese Ronaldo and UK and Germany also Pele from Brazil.

Actually likewise we try to avoid those two sensitive topics in work place but often people talks about it in coffee break or tea time. so if someone ask you about something like Kevin Drake said have to reply, if you don't say YES to something you already saying NO to it or YES to something else. I don't know why some people like to indulge in teleological and cosmological arguments. however for any discussion of non related work place I tell them we can book time on weekend and sit in cafeteria and have fun:)

Sante I like the Aussie Spirit and I see your valid points

Depends what country you live in Riyadh. You are in Canada so toss and coin and hope for the best ;-) We are in a similar situation in Australia (choking free speech) only not quite as bad yet. I don't like politics on these forums, but you did ask the question. I hope my Canadian colleagues here won't take offense; I won't for my own country ;-)
Sante, mostly talks about hockey and in your case I guess cricket and football which they call it soccer in N. America

Yes Riyad, its football and cricket in that order. Only we do actually call soccer, soccer like in the US. In the UK it's called football. Our football is unique to Australia; it's a rough game, as we don't wear any pads or protective gear over the body like they do in the US. More confusing is Rugby, and even though I am a Scrum (framework) fan, I just can't get into that game. Rugby is a lot like US football, only again we (and the UK and Europe) don't wear pads except for the shoulders. Lining this back to your topic on taboo topics, I would say that football causes more fights in Australia than politics and religion, and I am certain it's the same thing in the UK with soccer (their football).

Let's admit that most work place has a sort of politics and it is very difficult to avoid, some places has more some has less, it effect promotions as well.

We try to create an atmosphere free from unfair practices but that should be supported by top management.

Does this 'political or religious analysis' directly affect the project, such as whether it is advisable to construct a processing plant on top of an old graveyard? Or are you wondering if a Project Manager should express personal political or religious views that have nothing to do with executing the project?
Eric,
I see your point of graveyard, that could agitate the whole neighborhood :)
if such a project the PM have the say if he manage this project or leave it there are few other projects which contradict with the PM principle and values so in this way I should the PM should not join such organization.

Riyadh,

Politic and religion are two subject that can become explosive. In my experience it is rarely a subject of discussion in the work place.
