I work in a GREAT organization that simply does not embrace a structured PM approach. I have held off pursuing my PMP due to the PM hours of experience requirements.

Isn't PMI asking for only management experience? I don't know whether they were specifically looking for structured management experience. Please check the requirements section in pmi website for certification. Saving Changes...

My first post here...great site! I just spoke with a gentleman from Villanova about their program leading to PMP certification, and he stated that ANY project in the last eight (8) years can be used towards satisfying the time requirements. Hope this helps, I have been tallying my hours for a few days now... Saving Changes...

The process for submitting your qualifying hours involves a submission into each of the approximately 45 skills areas that are outlined in the current PMBOK. As long as you have experience with those - requirement definition, securing a team, etc it doesn't matter if the company doesn't have a formal project management approach / methodology.
If you are a PMI member go to that part of the site and you can start entering your experience, it doesn't actually get submitted until you are ready.
