While studying the Risk Management through the performing Qualitative risk analysis, I found that one of the outputs of this process group is to update the Assumptions log. Where shall I locate this document?

Hi Mahmoud, it's usually (for me anyway) in the Risk Management Plan but an Assumption log can also be created at the beginning of the project when we make high level assumptions about the project and continues throughout the project, and is updated throughout the project. It can just be an Excel sheet started early in the project and called an Assumption Log. It is located wherever you put it. As I said earlier, I include it as part of the Risk Management Plan.

It is part of the project documentation. As far ss I am aware, you won’t find it in a specific Knowledge Area solely unless things are differemt in the 6th Revision.

It is a list of assumptions that the project based some criteria upon and you need to ensure that are valid throughout the lifecycle.

it should be part of risk management plan. Also Assumption log is made during each phase of the project as well(atleast in the few of the projects I manage)

It is the first process of the PMBOK Guide - 6th edition :-)

It must be done from project charter creation due to project charter contains assumptions. The same with constraints because it is a good practice to have a contraints log too.

This is why I love the PMBOK Guide, some times. They call the output "Assumptions Log" but in the text it says it is Assumptions & Constraints Log :-)

Totally right my friend. I did wrote that in my previous comment because I tried to pointed out that in my case I use both and I manage both as I manage risk logs or requirements logs for example.

Assumption log is a part of Project documentation as far as I practice. The creation of Assumption log starts as soon as some conditions or pre-requisites are assumed for project to plan/execute/control.
Project charter makes high level assumptions & constraints. If one is quite informed where the given high level assumption is pointing, s/he can start creating Assumption log & update accordingly thru' out the project life cycle.
Of course, Qualitative Risk analysis may update this log as per impact & probability of the risk of the given assumption

Thank you all very much for your fast and satisfying explanation.

It isn't referenced explicitly, but almost any Planning process group process could result in updates to an Assumptions Log.

From a practical perspective, I've usually had it as another worksheet in my RAID log if the project was managed in a document-centric manner...

An assumption log is created during project initiation and updated throughout the project.
