Do you look for your leader to behave ethically or will you be ethical even if everyone around you is not

I joined a new team recently - I was impressed by the call from the executive to be ethical and respectful to each other as the pressures of the large transformation the organization is undertaking takes its toll. The executive message was echoed by every manger within the hierarchy. Hence the question, do you look for your leader to behave ethically? to set the tone? and how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically? Saving Changes...
I always expect leaders to be ethical, and it is one of the core competencies of leadership. However, I am yet to see an organization where 100% of the managers/leaders I have come across are ethical, other than paying lip service. We can and should strive for 100%, but since most corporations have a sales element for example, this may be a pipe dream moreso than reality.

I look to my [any] leader to behave ethically. I would not consider working with, for, or remain working for anyone who is not. And if I am in such a position that my leader[ship] is not ethical, I will continue to uphold my standards with my values and will act with integrity
Leaders are human beings and hence may on occasion not behave in alignment with company values or our view of what ethical behavior looks like.
While we can expect them to always "walk the walk", the outcomes when they don't are actually a great test of themselves and the company itself.

Generally, a leader should possess versatile quality to develop team dynamics and an environment where everyone behaves in an ethical manner and that's what the expectation would be. In an unethical environment, I will try to apply my own judgement to understand why the environment seems unethical, approach consistently ethically even if not reciprocated.

Ethical behavior is something we cultivate right from our very childhood to adolescence and which goes on till our very adulthood. Ethical behavior is not something we emulate by watching always people around us but comes from our core cultural, behavioral and background values that we have nurtured and evolved since years. To some extent few people do emulate their seniors/managers/leaders but every professional should follow their core instincts of what is right and wrong and what is deeply embedded in any organisation's value system.

99.9999966% of human beings are sinners, just because they are leaders so the impact of the sins are magnified more, but we should avoid expecting all leaders with no slips. for your second part this should not compromise the fundamental of been ethical, even all surrounding me are not ethical I remain ethical and firm to my principles.

Riyadh, I don't comprehend the term "sinners". I guess it's the same as saying people make mistakes, aren't perfect, and never will be, without the religious connotations. But we are in agreement on your premise: that all managers slip up from time to time, but should strive to maintain ethical standards.

I believe that Leaders should behave ethically because this is the only way to sustain the business and build a healthy environment. Personally, I can't work at an unethical organization or with an unethical leader because it will make a high pressure on myself and at the end maybe this will affect my value system, so it is better to select the right environment and right leader to work with.

If your manager's (leaders) knows your ground rules and these rules are in alignment with the company; The leader around or not, Your ethical behavior will not deviate.

Being ethical is one of the important leadership quality leaders are suppose to possess but unfortunately many of the leaders might not be perfect and being human it should be acceptable as we all make mistakes (I consider mistakes to be an act of judgment which is made unintentionally).
It is difficult to be part of an environment where everyone is unethical intentionally or it has become a norm. Either you should quit or be ready to face a lot of criticism which will ultimately force you to quit.
