Do you look for your leader to behave ethically or will you be ethical even if everyone around you is not

I joined a new team recently - I was impressed by the call from the executive to be ethical and respectful to each other as the pressures of the large transformation the organization is undertaking takes its toll. The executive message was echoed by every manger within the hierarchy. Hence the question, do you look for your leader to behave ethically? to set the tone? and how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

Ethics is everyones responsibility and each participant in the project is accountable for proper behavior and demonstrating corporate and personal core values. While compliance may not be 100%, the goal is clearly described PMI's Code of Ethics.
Thank you Henry. I was wondering if you could share how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

I personally believe that we have to be honest and ethical all the time. It has nothing to do with your environment.
Thank you Abolfazl. I was wondering if you could share how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

Amany,

Yes and yes to your question.
I have quit job for what I believe was not ethical.
And I expect executive to be ethical.

If one was not ethical or respectful, the short term reaction to the event will tell me a lot about the individual.
Thank you Vincent.

I expect leadership to always act ethically and am disappointed when they do not. Whether or not they do I think it is important that I do.
Thank you James. I was wondering if you could share how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

A leader is expected to be ethical and fair and I am also expected to behave the same as leader. Not only I look up to my leaders to be ethical but at the same time I also try to be ethical because my team looks up to me. If everyone around me is behaving unethical, may be its a sign to move on. I don't see any reason to behave anyone violating ethical values just because everyone around is doing so.
Thank you Alankar.

Ethics or principals or the ways of behave to achieve the goals of ones or any organization life . logic of the ethics train can reach the destination if the train road is complete . Obviously no destination can be reached with out good ethical behave .
Thank you Ahmad. I was wondering if you could share how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

Being ethical, or behaving ethically, is a choice that is independent of anyone else around you.

Of course, one would also look to their leaders to behave ethically - but their behaviour should not be a factor in the choices one makes.

And, regardless of anything else, always document decisions and the criteria for these decisions. They may not seem important at the time - but if you have a question about if the leadership is ethical or not, even the smallest decisions may fall prey to reviews or audits.
Thank you Karan. I was wondering if you could share how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

I am fortunate to rarely have had cause to do this, but I would cover my backside from here to Sunday with documented evidence of my behaviour and my decisions.

I would also raise red flags to the appropriate stakeholders - keeping them informed of things and reducing the risk and impact of a fallout later in the cycle.

APPROACHABLE BEHAVIOR when it responds to some parameters that aim at the pursuit of the collective good in the specific case are the good of the company.

The behavior must use parameters that qualify the action and respond to the objectives that you want to achieve. The reference tool to qualify the behavior is that of an ethical policy.
Thank you Catello. I was wondering if you could share how would you behave in an environment where everyone around you acts unethically?

the leader must be an example in demonstrating and communicating the ethical principle, whoever does not respect this principle is out of the team
