Technology Business Management Framework (TBM) - Experiences

Does anyone have experience in the implementation of TBM Technology Business Management within their Enterprise? I'd specifically love to hear about how this particular model was integrated across other disciplines and frameworks. For example, if your organization had a Scaled Agile or LeSS model in place, ow did this play in? How did you incorporate PfM into this model? Did you work with any software vendors in support of the implementation? How did they integrate with your PPM or Agile Team Management tools? I'd love to hear your stories about this particular framework.

I do. I lead the transformation that has taken three years and it is close to end this year. All you list has been implemented or tried into the model. The driver was Agile based transformation to gain into agility. While I said and wrote about things like creating towers jeopardizes that the transformation was run. To fix or mitigate those type of things horizontal integration layers have to be created.

Thank you for your reply, Sergio. Based on your experiences, do you have any advice with respect to integrating Lean portfolio management with the TBM framework where agile operating models are already in place? Were there any hurdles you encountered that you would advise others to avoid or think about differently given your path? Thanks again.

You are welcome. The best scenario for myself is that organizations will be successful when using these tools. That will make the market grow. I was in charge "to fix" the first chos that it was created because the situation you describe. First of all, what I did is to help my organization to understand that Lean like Agile is not about to use a method, is about to apply a "philosophy" and set of practices and it will demand a whole organizational transformation where you have to consider the whole architecture. Sorry to do this, but below you will find an article that was published by the IIBA and the PMI as "best practice" where I describe the method to follow when you will start this type of things (a practical method that helped me so I hope it will help you). Second, it very important to think in terms of layers and how those layers will interact through interfaces maintaining high cohesion and low coupling. That will help you to hide the initial complexity into each layer. Just to comment, we are now trying to incorporate SAFe-DevOps because some Lean practices has been stablished at portfolio level. To be honest, I think we are not totally ready for that but as you can imagine, while my comments are taking into account, strategical decisions are making at high level. My offer is: my personal email is [email protected]. If you want I can help you giving you my personal comments on things you need to apply. I made this type of things because it helps me a lot to improve myself.
