Alternatives to Microsoft Project Server?

Hi all,

Greetings from the land down under!

Has anybody used a reliable, quality alternate product that allows project resources to update their individual tasks (which are then reflected in the overall project plan)?

I've worked for companies that have used Niku or Primavera - both can be costly to implement.
