Ah brothers alike. Actually I'm down late, and up early. A few hours a night since I was a kind. I think I've already lived 100 years if you calculate wake times ;-)

I'm like an ice cube - I'm coolest and most capable when I wake up and progressively turn into an unthinking puddle of water by day's end.

Sergio has a point. In today's distributed project world, many of us manage teams in multiple time-zones. There is no early, late, or middle of the road. Just awake or asleep :-)

I'm nocturnal but my work day at 06:00 and I usually leave at 18:00 and then work from home for a few (or several) more hours as needed. Like Sante, I've never slept more than a few hours at night since I was little. Guess I'm one of the vampires...

I would like to work night shift if it is available, but unfortunately not, I think I'm one of the vampires too :)
Flexible working hours shifts increase productivity and reduce traffic jams, therefore Project Mangers should allow them in their projects.
Unless you are addressing your client from a different time zone, that is shiftinig your work schedule ... You should start your work early in the morning.
Starting work early; has all that energy and zeal, and if you have a Well Sorted Activity list (everyday), then you are planned to head on and complete the big tasks (say 2 big task), by lunch.
This gives you confidence to complete the lesser priority task, between post-lunch to evening and should leave you satisfied, and help you plan your next day.
If your not in this habit, then your leaving room for being less creativity to less efficient to less productive.
