Wondering if I could get opinions on best project collaboration tool? This would be for both internal and external contributors. I am familiar with Sharepoint, Jira, and most recently, Glip. Am interested in what is being used. Also interested in best free alternatives. Thanks in advance...

Kurt -

Depends on what features are required.

I like Slack for loosely structured collaboration and Confluence for more structured work...

- Jira for Backlog and Sprint-Planning/ Tracking
- Confluence for operational production of project documents like Specifications for different development objects
- SharePoint for documents on project management level and different team working papers that do not fit with confluence. You can link from the Jira task to SharePoint objects.

SmartSheets is a good option, I have been using that for a few months & it has a lot of added value.

Does anyone have any experience using box (https://www.box.com/) for managing task lists? I'm really looking for something that allows stakeholders outside the organization to update status documentation and I would like to receive alerts when those changes take place.

The best collaboration tool is the one that is accepted and mastered by your team members. I worked in organizations were people loved share point, however there were another that each time that I mentioned "share point" they wanted to fire me

If you already have Sharepoint stick with that. Otherwise the other suggestions here are great.
