Over the years I have had good and bad bosses. I was thinking what the characteristics of the worse bosses were. It seemed to be similar across multiple people.
I have had more than one boss that you never knew what you were going to get when you walked in their office. It could be friendly boss or mad at the world boss. My way of dealing with them was to put a big smile on my face and be over the top positive until I could get out of the office.
I had the boss that I constantly needed to calm down and keep them from freaking out over issues with the customer. It was exhausting.
And then I had the one boss that if you disagreed with them, they would take it personal and hold it against you forever. Once I was on the "bad" list, I knew there was nothing I could do so I just kept my focus on my work and tried to reduce unnecessary interactions.

Had a boss once who always took all the credit for any work done by is team. We all found this rather disappointing as we were never thanked or acknowledged. It didn't really make for a positive work environment. What it did do however, was to teach me a valuable lesson. When I became a "boss", I always made sure that credit was given where credit was due. My team responded by giving their best because they always new they would be thanked and acknowledged.

Mine was the one who took my resignation VERY personally by letting me know (after I had gone home on the day I resigned) that I wouldn't need to come back to work my notice period. I had an office full of stuff which HR then had to box and send to me and a team who I had to inform separately via personal e-mail about my departure!

I had the same thing happen once. Everyone assumed I had been fired and something really bad happened. I left to be a SAHM!

I had a boss who was a Micro-Manager. It was a nightmare workign with him especially with the level of insecurity he had. Workign with a micromanager is really bad.

I have to say so far in my career I have been blessed with some great bosses. There have definitely been different personalities but once I understood them I have been able to successfully work with each one.

The key thing to understand is: there are not "bad", "good", etc, etc boss. There are the boss that best fit to company culture. Is a matter of the company, not a matter of people. On the other side, you need at least two people to evaluate behavior. Saving Changes...
I have a boss currently who is never satisfied with anything you do for him. it's like he does finds excuses personally to lambast all the time. Saving Changes...
The worst boss I had, uneducated one who did not complete his high school, micro management, insecure and racist. He went nuts at me when he came to know that I was studying and developing myself. I had to live with his racist comments everyday. I left the company after 5 months of continual insults about education or about where I came from. When I left he said to me Do not put my name as a reference because I will XXxX you.
