In my actual work we use Office 360 suite including outlook and skype for business. If you let me say this, emails is a great tool for communication in virtual team. As any other tool, organizations must teach people to use it. That is not usual to find, mainly about teaching the use of email.

Hi Sergio, I agree, emails seems to be so simple and yet it’s not that easy to use them right. But I’m more concerned about sharing and distribution of files, keeping track of the versioning, I thought this may be difficult to do it over emails. Do you have any experience how to avoid confusion while using emails for that?
With Asana if you have more than 15 team members then you would need Premium service for $120 per year. Saving Changes...

Oh great, sounds like a nice project! How big is the team? I’m on my first assignment as a volunteering project manager and I was just wondering what are the biggest challenges I will face.

All related to exchange files must be taking into account inside a Project Configuration Management environment. I mean, it is more than a simple version control. In this case, in my actual work, as a rule we not consider a file that is attached to an email as a valid file. We maintained a central repository of files inside the Office 360 tools. But as I mentioned, is not about the tool, is about the configuration management system you have implemented. Then, when you defined the process, you can use any tool. There are a lot of tools for free that you can use.

I am a big fan of opensource software. And my investigation on team management operations revealed the apache bloodhound and a couple of similar solutions, they are mainly bug and issue and ticket tracking systems though. However they can be installed at a web-server and used as online tools , and they has open source nature. Saving Changes...
No trials, I need something free for long term. I’m working as volunteer for a non profit so all “big tools” are out of question. And I really don’t want to distribute everything by emails, that would not work. But because I spent all my life in corporations I realized I don’t really keep track of good tools that are free, I’m not familiar with them. For instance from Google?
I’ll check the Hubbion, thanks. And I saw Slack, that’s also a good one.
In my opinion maillist method is the most functional. Several Universities and developers teams utilize it for huge teams interactions. Like with thousands of subscribers. Saving Changes...
