In my last job, my contract expired 31DEC2017. The PgM wanted to save money by not extending my contract/PO and asked the senior developers if they would cover my duties. They told him "h3lI no," "I can't do what George does," "George is crucial," and, "we need George." The PgM extended my contract :)

The nicest compliment is seeing “full adoption” of your product or service and still seeing the fruits of them years and decades later.

The other type of compliment I enjoy is hearing from others what upper management states about your projects and abilities, as direct compliments from senior management are few and far between.

A major issue occurred within my organization and I had to gather a number of experts on short notice, tell them they have to drop everything to help fix the situation including nights and weekends until the issue was resolved.

After a long pause as the group considered the situation, one person spoke up and told me that as the team leader on this project, I am in an extremely difficult and unpleasant but also critical position and that they were glad I was the one assigned to lead them through this.

I don't even remember what the actual situation was anymore, but clearly remember that comment and how stunned and humbled I felt about how the room full of professionals reacted not with anger that their lives were just put on hold indefinitely, but that they were counting on me to get them all through it.

Best compliment was my last meeting with the sponsor after a long difficult project who thanked me for successfully getting the project done and told me they were ready to fire my company before I came in and turned it around and got the team working to their best.
