Is there any tool to check if the available resources will be able to meet the Planned end date. I have 100 modules each one with different complexity and hence different planned hours. End date for completing these 100 modules is fixed. I need to check if with the available resources whether this date can be met. Using Microsoft project or Primavera will help..? I have not used these tool so need confirmation.
Will this tool help for first time plan only or can I use them to track the status daily..? Suppose one resource goes on unplanned leave, can I use this tool to check and again modify the plan easily to fit in the schedule. Saving Changes...

For resource allocation and capacity to work across the organization or a program, there is a need for a centralized tool, ideally connected to AD, to ensure all program or project managers can see the available resources by entering in criteria around the specific expertise needs. On top of that, there should be a resource manager to help identify and allocate (or shift around) resources for any specific project.
MS Project will not work unless you are using project server. Primavera, Clarity, or any PPM tool or ERP system will do the job.
I have also seen elaborate spreadsheets developed for resource handling. This would, IMO, more so require someone dedicated to the role of a resource manager. While being simpler to implement, may be harder to manage. Depends on the size of the organization, size of the projects, and the number of PM's and resources
most project scheduling tools supported by a resource pool will meet your needs so it comes down to the scale of activities & resources which might dictate the use of a higher end product.
The bigger challenge is getting quality data to enter & update...
