Project portfolio prioritization

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used some project prioritization methods for a portfolio of initiatives.

As a project manager, I am coming up with some criteria/measures for a lot of initiatives in order to help prioritize the workload.

Any suggestions on good criteria/measures, process and possibly some good software would be greatly welcome!
