Hi, in my unofficial PMO at a small company we have a weekly meeting where we

* Prioritize projects
* Accept / reject newly proposed projects
* Resolve resource conflicts
* Raise any other issues regarding projects

What name would you give to such a meeting, in a more formal environment than mine?

Michael, I would characterize this as "portfolio management." You could also call it "project analysis" or some facsimile.

Yes, I would probably call it something like "project portfolio analysis", or it could also be called program management if the set of projects you are reviewing are geared to support some sort of focussed program.

I think what would be important, if you are looking to put some formality to this, in your situation is:

1. Develop a data store to hold all of the projects in the same format. This could be a simple as a spreadsheet.

2. Establish definite criteria for analysis, such as ROI, strategic focus, resources required, size of project, etc.

3. Establish parameters annually on what you are looking to achieve, how much is budgeted for these projects, and what you expect broadly in terms of numbers of projects, total expenditure, average project size, and other variables related to point #2.

I know you did not ask for all of this, but I thought it was relevant!
