Efforts and activities as a tester in an Agile environment can be different that what is typically referred to as a more traditional environment.
In an Agile environment, testing is part of the inner circle of analysis and development as opposed to a downstream recipient and last wall of safety prior to general availability.
For example, in a Scrum and SAFe framework, testers are part of the development team, engaged in planning activities, story writing/decomposition, and acceptance criteria tests.
Now where they become the real heroes, is the testing group is also responsible for regression, system, and integration testing. Saving Changes...
They realize that the team collectively owns the code, there is no seniority or sub-teams, they are not only testers but have cross-functional skills to offer the team, they collaborate with the team, they agree on their commitments (the DoD) and goals and stick to it. Saving Changes...
1. Being a generalizing specialist - i.e. versatile in their capabilities
2. Documenting only so much as is truly required. For example, if a defect can be immediately resolved, tapping the developer on the shoulder to fix it so it can be re-tested is better than logging and maintaining a defect record.
3. Striving to minimize waste - for example, leveraging automation as much as possible so that no test case is ever run manually.
4. Helping POs, BAs and others come up with acceptance criteria.
5. Focusing on quality as the goal rather than defect identification.
