We have all been there. I find it hard to get away from my computer so I would say I eat while working a lot of the time.

It was so annoying for awhile. I used to eat and read a book. My lunch is always at the same time. My one boss seemed to wait until noon every day to come over and ask a question. She would always state that she did not want to disturb me, but here is my question anyway. I tried to sit in an empty conference room, but then people would see me (glass door) and poke their head in and ask what I was doing in there.
When I started studying for the PMP, I put the sign up. If it is lunchtime and you see me studying, do not disturb. It worked.
You can't escape it seems.

Sante,

Following my recovery from a health issue I had last year, I decided to stop eating lunch while working. I take a break, go out, enjoy the sunshine (even if it's for a short walk around the block).
Amany, I hope that is working out better for you :-)

For over 2 years I was a team of one, so I ate lunch at my desk and worked at the same time. Now that I have a team, I try to plan lunch and learns or lunch and discuss opportunities once a month away from the office. Once a month the PMO hosts a "Fun with the PMO Team" lunch where we invite Finance, Sales, and Marketing that sit in the same building with us.

I find it difficult to set aside time for lunch during certain times of the year like reporting cycles or during certain times of an engagement. I've found that it is much easier to get away for 10 -15 by taking a walk around the neighborhood my office is in then to get away for lunch.

From my point of view, this is very very cultural. When I worked in Spain, Italy or France we went outside to a restaurant, had lunch, walk around the office and comeback ready to start. Breaks from 1 to 1.30 hours.

In the USA, basically I saw all the people eating in the desk or in the provided "break rooms". Here lunch time is less "social"

About 90% of the time I eat at my desk, however I utilize that 30 minutes or so for learning. Reading PM articles, earning PUs, and so on...

Most of the time I go out for lunch. It is good to have a breath of fresh air and eat peacefully.
It is absolutely necessary

I used to eat at my desk all the time, realized you need a break. Whether at a break room or off site, usually will eat with co-workers and found that interaction was very beneficial.
