Project management fees

I'm thinking of becoming an independent project management consultant and need establishing rates. I've got a couple contracts lined up paying 60/hr but I'm wondering if I'm low balling myself. Need your advice.

I am not sure about USA market. In general fees of pmc is about 5% of the total contract.. small projects has different calculation.

Well I don't get to see the contracts because I'm under the umbrella of another company. Where is the best place to look for bids and contracts for project management services?

I think you are charging very low it should be between $ 120 - 150 per hour however, it is better to charge a lump-sum

In Canada, PM consultants charge anywhere from $110 - $135 CND per hour from what Ive seen,

Depends on the role and the level of competition in your market. My suggestion would be to contact one or two reputable recruiters in your area to find out what going rates are for different types of PM roles.

Remember that domain expertise is important so the rate for a PM on a hot skill project might be higher than that for more of a "bread & butter" role.

Rami - the rates you are quoting sound higher than what I'm seeing in the Toronto area unless it is again for a hot skill project (e.g. Blockchain, machine learning). That would be for independent consulting of course - firms will bill their PMs out at much higher rates!

The rates I posted are not for an independent consultant. The are rate for consulting firm like ours where they charge their PM’s to the client for that much.
