Hi,
Unlike most of you I am in a position of going from one temp project to another for purposes of survival (combination of giving up a venture and long job search). I've had a long term issue with PMI and that is the qualification to take the PMP. I have had all of the training, plus I have more than the requisite number of hours, but those hours were not all in the required consecutive period, more spread out over years. I've tried explaining my situation to PMI, an issue of making a living, etc., but was not successful. Does anybody have a suggestion of how to overcome this? The associate in PM (secondary certification) doesn't seem to have the same value as PMP. And most job opportunities list PMP "desirable" (might as well say required).
Thanks! Saving Changes...

David, I don't believe that the experience has to be consecutive. As I understand it the requirement for individuals with an undergraduate degree is for 3 years of experience in the last 8 years. Within the 3 years you have to have around 75% of the time (total 4,500 hours) leading or directing project tasks. I'm obviously not privy to the details of your career over that time period, but review the PMBoK disciplines against what you have done and you'll probably be able to come up with most of the required hours even if it wasn't all in a formal, structured project. Hope that helps. Andy Jordan, President, Roffensian Consulting Inc., www.roffensian.com Saving Changes...

Andy seems to be on target with his read on the situation. You might want to check out this article about any volunteering work you might have done. Verify of course.
David - can you put your experience in a spreadsheet or a word doc stating from/to, duration, relevant project management area practiced etc.? I can then understand and can possibly help.
