Leadership is a subjective topic, there are books, TED talks, articles, courses and webinars in the road to becoming a great leader.

By experience what are your core beliefs or the baseline that make you a great leader as as Project Manager and as a role model.

An effective leader should have the ability to change their style to meet the changing needs of the team.

A great leader will understand how to lead not only the team but each of the members of the team. The same approach may not work for everyone.

Also, you can't be a good leader unless you're a good follower. None of us are absolute leaders, and if you can't get along with your superiors how can you lead others? You must always lead by example, so your followers need to see you being a good follower, so they know how to do the same. If you can't get along with your boss and are always complaining about him/her behind their back, your followers are encouraged to do the same to you.

Leading by motivating and leading by example.

I still remember we were in a deep trouble with a client (late) and all the team was so stressed about it and they all got penalised by the company.

I tried to motivate them and put them back to good mood of work and on track. I had many teams including the welders' team and I was the first to start welding and cutting steel to show them that we still can make it on time and good quality. I miss those days ... MOTIVATING and EXAMPLE were the keys to get back the team on track. I realised that unless you sacrifice your time and efforts to the team and lead them they will not be motivated. I did not have site office even in that project.

As the wise ??? (Confucius) said, "If you lead people with instructions and punishments, they will stay out of trouble; but they will lose their self-respect. If you lead people by example, and by having good manners, they will develop self-respect; and so, they will keep themselves out of trouble." He was a big proponent of leading by example and being generous (positive reinforcement, motivation).

Understand what it means to be extra-ordinary, as a leader, compared to what characterizes an ordinary leader.
