Has anyone sat for the PMP Exam based on PMBOK 6th edition recently? Any idea, is there substantial material difference from the one based on PMBOK 5th edition?

I did on 5th version. I am not sure I can be of much help but one important thing to mention is try to understand the relationship of different process groups and also the order of KAs. in a word, memorize page 25 in 6th version.

Took the PMBOK 6th edition course and took exam. Did not pass. 90% of exam focuses on scenarios placing emphasis of what would you do as a project manager given the situation.

Abdulrahman -

While there might not be a lot of questions on the new content in the PMBOK Guide (e.g. expanded content on role of PM, emerging trends), the nomenclature changes alone to processes and the ITTO's would be a good reason to study materials based on the current, Sixth Edition to avoid confusion on the exam.

Below post is from someone who passed the PMP exam 2 days back. Hope it helps. Good Luck

Super stoked to write that I passed my PMP exam today with an above target score. I’ll break down my study habits as well as the exam for you:

Studying-
I didn’t begin studying until April 2. I took a bootcamp through project management academy from April 2-5 which basically gave me all the fundamental knowledge. I took my notes from that and made some flash cards for definitions and theories, but really focused the next 10 days on practice exams. I took 5 practice exams (on projectmanagementacademy.com and udemy.com thanks to Amir Shaikh!!) total from start to finish and it helped me understand how questions were positioned. Being 100% honest, I was scoring in the high 60s, low 70s for most and this was super concerning to me. I went through and analyzed questions after the exam to see why it was wrong. Most of the time there is 1 word that invalidates something, so pay attention to detail. I also searched for YouTube videos on topics I didn’t understand for clarity (I’m a visual learner). I made sure I had the EVM fundamentals memorized, but I did not read the PMBOK or Rita’s, or memorize the ITTOs. I just tried to focus on situations and how to apply what I learned.

One of the member has passed pmp today. His lesson learned as follows:

Hello All

Today I passed the PMP and I am extremely happy!
Great thanks to all of you who shared your experience & lessons learned in this group.

Main points of the Exam:
- Long, wordy questions (Majority)
-No agile questions at all
- roughly 7 to 10calculation questions from EVM
- No ITTO question
- Most of the questions were about change… and what do you next…

I used all my time, 4 hours. I spent 3h 40 minutes for answering questions and had only 20 minutes for review. I did not review all my marked questions. (This happened because questions were really long and had to read them twice to correctly understand the point.)
-Don’t rush! Read the questions carefully.

Study material:

- Joseph Phillips “PMP Project management Professional Study Guide Fifth Edition” I read this book 3 times, but mock questions contained subjects, not mentioned in this book. So, I had to use Rita 9-th for additional reference guide.
- RITA Mulcahy 9th edition: I didn’t read the book. Used for reference as mentioned above.
- I didn’t read the PMBOK. I used it for reference material (Process Definitions & ITTOs)

- Did a lot of mock questions. Making mistakes and reviewing explanations. I found this as a best practice for preparation for the exam.
