Definitely can't hurt, right? Based on the fact you're asking the question, you already have a sense of what to do. If you want validation, then yes, absolutely stay current so when the time comes, you are ready!

There is not need for course. I am part of the genesis of Agile where it was born (USA DoD NSF Agility Forum in 1990) and it implemtnation to software (I was part of the group of authos of DSDM). Search for USA DoD NSF/Agility Forum deliverables or Rick Dove´s book "Response Ability" which contains most of the forum deliverables because Rick was the program manager. On the other side you can search for the seminal work named "Agile Manufacturing" (the first use of Agile work in latest 1980). Just take a look to that: https://hbr.org/1986/01/the-new-new-product-development-game

Having "little exposure to Agile", an online course is a good source of learning as a first step. Also read the Agile practice Guide which comes with PMBOK6. While Sergio's comments are meant well, it seems a little overkill for what you have described as your entry point. If there is a book you might want to read, one of the Agile leading works is Succeeding with Agile by Mike Cohn. Online Udemy courses are only around $20.
