Kevin,
From my point of view, Project Management is a Profession, not industry. The key challegnes differ for different industries. For example, in Construction:
1- Scarce Resources / Skilled Labor 2- Material - Long Lead Items 3- Schedules & Priorities
In order to tackle those challenges effectively and efficiently, you have to do trade-offs. For example: Resource Leveling which wil definitely extend the duration of your schedule to accomodate the resource contraints you have.

I think the key challenges are:
- Undefined goals: PM should establish and communicate clear goals
- Lack of stakeholder engagement: PM should communicate openly and encourage feedback throughout the project
- Improper risk management: Proper planning for risk management is very crucial.

Effective balancing of the constraints, being transparent with information, managing expectations as things change, get feedback at all stages.
Delivering value ...I think the profession of PM should look at this point deeper for a better future. Saving Changes...

Are the challenges really changing over the time? I believe the main stays the same. But there are some new, like now we need to deal more with managing distributed teams because it is suddenly possible. Teams are global, different time zones, not sharing workspace. That would not be possible without technologies we have today but it also brings more challenges than let’s say 20 years ago. Saving Changes...

I think my opinion the tips for project management challenge are:
1) Follow communication management like making reports, meeting, know which communication method will be used if it is formal or informal;
2) Follow Quality process and specification in any project progress to obtain the customer requirements, and
3) Knowing inter personnel skills, negotiation, contract condition, conflict managemnt...etc Saving Changes...
