For me I can tell my journey will be very different as I have not come from any of the common PM applications.
The past 11 years have been strictly within cargo/logistics/freight forwarding. Daily operations is sort of like PM work on a very basic level. Every cargo move is a project in itself. Within my career I have held a PM position regarding customers moving items to trade shows overseas. Really didn't feel too much different from what I had done operationally, only I stepped away from operations at that time.
I also ran a school project for a freight company which was a great success for me. I was commended by the president of the company along with the logistics manager of another. I still remember the day I was setting things up during the planning stage and how good it felt running a successful conference call with the stakeholders. This was still pretty new to me at the time, but my previous experience as a sales/PM taught me well enough.
If I remain in the same field, the closest title I can see related would be logistics coordinator or maybe a management position where these skills would come in handy.
Anyone else here within the freight field or know of PMs within the field?
If I wanted to head outside of this field and possibly jump in to IT as a PM - how possibly is such a transition and what would I need to know or do? Saving Changes...
