PMI's PMBOK is a framework while Prince2 is a methodology, so that is one big difference. Not sure about IPMA.

First thing you have to understand is this: PMI´s PMBOK is not a methodology and does not prescribe in favor of a methodology. PRINCE2 is a method. IPMA is a framework of competences. So, they are not matter of comparison no matter they are focused on project management. Generally speaking about the point when you will use something to create things into your organization you have to perform an activity that is named "needs assessment" (PMI) or "strategy analysis" (IIBA) and belongs to business analysis field. There is not good or bad, there is what best fits for your initiatives inside your environment.

In essence, IPMA addresses categories similar the PMBOK Knowledge Areas. However, when becoming certified IPMA (first level), I found IPMA addressed more in-depth such aspects as knowledge of the enterprise, negotiation, how to address legal requirements, leadership tools, etc... (competences)
Having done both PMP and IPMA, I believe they BOTH provide excellent tools, techniques and competencies for managing projects and can even compliment each other. However, where PMP requires an applicant to have a minimum number of active hours project management experience, IPMA requires one (at least when I did it 2007) to qualify first at the lowest level, regardless of the number of year's PM experience, before attempting to qualify at more advanced levels of certification.
