I had this in a poll, but a question make more sense. For me, it's the good old whiteboard.

We went through some corporate-level building renovation a couple of years ago to freshen things up. Part of the direction was to have people more accessible and open, and many of us who had offices scattered up and down various halls, now have cubicle spaces that are more centralized.

It did improve accessibility to people. And the new building has a lot of windows and good visibility with the low partition walls (the top foot or so of the walls are glass too).

But we don't have the physical space for whiteboards anymore, and there is a lot of "standardization" in place, which doesn't allow for whiteboards, guest chairs, etc., in order to keep a clean and uncluttered appearance. There is one "project room", but there are a lot of projects... :-)

John, my current office lacks a whiteboard, and it's a critical gap.
