Hello to everyone,

Is there any relationship between PMP and MBA although there are branches from the management branches. Can MBA help and develop the project management career, performance & knowledge like PMP? Can anyone advise to take MBA beside of PMP??

I have both. Both are totally different things, no matter of comparison. Go for the MBA indeed. Remember that PMP is a certification created for the PMI only.

Tamer -

The real value in an MBA is the case study group work which will hone soft skills and strategic thinking and augmenting your professional network to boost your career.

As such, it is definitely complementary to a PM focused development effort (e.g. PMP, PMI-RMP) but the cost and time commitment is something you will need to weigh seriously against the benefits.

Thanks your advise Kiron!!!!

As qualifications they aren't really related but they can compliment each other depending on your job role.
Thanks Sante!!!!

I have done both MBA and PMP. PMP certifies you as a project manger and not more, while an MBA helps you see the business side of things and see the big picture (As a program manager/ Portfolio manager).. However if your business is into doing projects, like the EPC/IT business then a PMP would help you how the business runs at grass root level and what process changes would you bring to make the business do better.

Hope this helps (and that I didnt confuse you)

MBA is useful but it is not directly related with project management. It is related with business administration. However MBA helps you to improve your knowledge and become a more successful project manager.

Hi,I attended MBA courses after taken PMP certification. It’s my third year in MBA study. Currently, I am exchanged to a top 4 Europe business school, here I could frequently listen to sharing from CFO, CEO of prestigious companies. In my opinion, PMP focuses more on project details, such as methodology and tools, practical experience. On the other side, MBA education provides me the knowledge and soft skills to run a company, eg, P&L, performance management, supply chain management etc.

I earned my MBA and worked with technology companies, the natural progression led to me leading projects and later I got my PMP. The MBA provides a good background for general business and the PMP provides you with recognition of your project management capability.
