I am a manager of a group where about half of my people are project managers. The remainder of the organization does various other things such as testing, captial portfolio management, data base administation, process documentation, etc. I want to get my PMP certification and have taken an e-learning class. All of the material was very familiar to me because I have been so involved in developing the development process and have the group of project managers. But, when I look at the application, I'm having trouble figuring out how to translate my experience since I have not really managed a "project" Saving Changes...

Jackie, read the PMP Credential Handbook very carefully, the key words there are Leading and directing project tasks as identified in PMP Examination Specification. Based on the job description you indicated, I certainly think that you would be able to find in the PMP Exam Spec tasks and activities that you did perform part of your job, that you can use to fill in the experience verification section of the PMP application. Good luck with the exam! Saving Changes...

Jackie, what i understand from your posting is, you manage a team of PMs + some technocrats for various activities. If that's right, i guess your work involves identify, plan and monitor their activities, look for aberations in plan and take corrective action and hence identify, manage the expectations of of your stakeholders and SLAs etc.. It's no different from managing a project. That's exactly you do as a PM. So, go ahead and report what you do, and i see no problem in PMI crediting the same as "Met requirements for PMP certification". Good Luck !! Saving Changes...
