When the project manager establishes good communication within the team, everyone can work harmoniously. However, there are many communication constraints that limit the success of the project.

1. Orgnaizational structure/ project structure
2. Commuincatcion channels
3. Gossips
4. Culture
5. Language barrier

Lack of transparency is one of the key factors in causing communication dispute.
Verbal communication.
Unnecessary information that decrease the importance of effective information
Layout of information. I remember that a famous contractor had added some options in its proposal in different unrelated subjects and had notified that execution some parts of project under extra phase or agreement will be done. .
Hi, I tried to connect with you but I do not know why I can not send the invitation to connect.
Please send the connect request, so I can connect with you.
Best Regards,

One often underrated barrier is the lack of project standards on terminologies (especially for project roles), glossary, and document templates.

If there's no foundation for these elements, even the best laid communication plans go haywire and end up in a whirlwind of static.

How about:

- personal agendas (a.k.a. empire building, turf protection...)
- unconscious & conscious bias
- distraction from smartphones & other sources...

Another aspect is different levels of skills and preferences with communication methods. Some folks prefer email to text or phone calls. Some are uncomfortable with technologies such as Skype and so on

Forgot about that one, tell us more about your experience with it,

Huston and Perth about 11- 12 hours of struggle to communicate
Kevin, I just tried to add something to your list, but got hard time to differentiate between communication constraints and communication blockers.

Time zone: With my current project, my consultant's location is Toronto (EST) and my location is Yellowknife (MST). For web conferences and trouble shooting, I always need to consider time difference-due to which sometimes things get delayed.

Not easy to use technology: When I go for highway inspection, I use to carry satellite phone, due to non availability of cellular net works. The satellite technology is some times annoying, cause I need to stop when driving and setup antenna otherwise lots of noise.

Hi I would add environment (quality of the offices, setup etc) and emotions both can intrefere a lot in the Communications!
So the project manager should include those in his management plans! Good working conditions will enhance positive attitude! Controlling emotions is another fundamental task to ensure positive communication!

How about confidentiality of the project? I’ve experienced it several times, it is very limiting
