I have to admit that I was not like this, but a remarkable transformation in my attitude towards mistakes I make in the last few years have changed me totally. I admit mistakes, look for roots, sort it out, learn from it, and educate/coach others about it.

Oh, absolutely. Always. Not only is it the correct thing to do - in today's world mistakes will always be found out and there's no percentage in hiding it.
Additionally, there will be lots of scenarios where mistakes are attributed to you. Admitting your mistakes builds credit for situations when you refute these mistakes where you have done nothing wrong.

And it is important to encourage this view in others, creating an environment in which mistakes are expected (we are all human) and acknowledged, and where the response to the situation is positive, constructive and supportive!
