Mind Map as the name suggests is a visual representation of your ideas, thoughts and plans which can be effective for Project Planning, Communication Strategy, Risk Management and Resource Allocations. All of us have been trained from childhood to visually think of mind maps when we encounter a new concept, want to consolidate our thoughts for a trip that we are planning or even when we are making a shopping list for an upcoming event which is why the conventional mind map can turn out to be a very effective tool for Project Managers who tackle simple tasks to more complex ones involving multiple team members. A mind map often involves very little technology and starts with a central cloud which depicts the main concept, task, risk or issue with radiating branches which represent either causes, types, inputs, deliverables, deadlines or even ideas that breakdown complex activities to multiple bite size pieces that are easier to understand and track. Mind maps can easily be shared among team members and can be accessed and understood to ensure all the project team members are aligned and attracts more ideas. This technique also prevents re-invention of the wheel as team members can track progress and even contribute new innovative and sustainable ideas simply by adding branches to the mind map. Mind maps can also be converted into to-do lists and to document lessons learnt in a project.
