Take Your Volunteer Group to the Next Level
One of the best things you can do for your own well-being is to be a volunteer in a group that helps other people. If you’re like me, however, you may get frustrated at the disarray that often occurs just when things need to get organized.
Volunteer groups are made up of people who want to help. There is usually a leader who does most of the event planning and the assigning of individual duties. Finally, a volunteer group has some kind of output expected, through an event or series of events. The leader is typically too busy to take care of all details for all events.
You can see how the inability of a group leader to manage all details suggests that there is a need for an experienced organizer to fill the gap. An organizer with the right skillset can lead the group to help more people more effectively. You are a project manager, so have just the skills that are needed.
Here are a couple of specific places you may be able to assist (there are many others, but these give you an idea)…
1. Planning events
Volunteer organizations typically generate many events. They may give away items, they may hold fundraisers, get-togethers, parades and collective actions among other diverse activities.
