Like the technology itself, my views on artificial intelligence are rapidly changing. There are exciting possibilities to become more productive, and even creative in some ways. On the other hand, there are concerns about unfair copyright practices regarding how AI is developed.

As the past few years have unfolded, the trend is increasingly becoming clear: AI is here to stay.

AI Is the New Email
There is a definite shift in how organizations talk about AI. Technology leaders are no longer the only ones seeing promise in it. I recently heard a senior person in a leadership role describe AI as “the new email.” Today, we rely on email to get work done, organize, and stay productive. Sometimes email is overwhelming, and other tools have emerged. Yet, it is hard to argue about email’s enduring value.

If that point of view is correct, there are a few options for next steps. There is the cautious “wait and see,” late-adopter option until those people are convinced of its value; and there is the proactive early adopter option. Some remain concerned about ethics. Guardrails on AI have merit, but those will take time to develop. Therefore, I recommend looking for ways to add AI to your routine, even if it is not a focus of your project.
