In this first PMI Healthcare Collective Roundtable session, healthcare PMO leaders explore how project management can better support strategic outcomes across healthcare organizations.

The PMI Healthcare Collective brings together leaders focused on advancing best practices and sharing insights within the healthcare project management community. In this session, the panel discussed findings from PMI’s Bridging the Gap report, which highlights differences between how executives and PMOs view project success.

One key theme was strategic alignment. While project teams often measure success through traditional metrics—such as delivering on time, within scope, and on budget—executives are increasingly focused on whether those projects contribute to broader organizational goals. For PMOs, this means shifting attention from process alone to ensuring that projects deliver real value.

Customer centricity was another important topic. In healthcare, project outcomes ultimately affect patients, clinicians, and the overall performance of the organization. Leaders are looking for initiatives that improve areas such as patient safety, clinical outcomes, and financial sustainability. Because healthcare environments are often dynamic and unpredictable, PMOs must balance structured methodologies with the flexibility needed to adapt.
