These days, agile delivery is used for a wide variety of different types of projects. It consistently proves its worth in everything from product development to marketing.
But there is no getting away from the fact that agile as we know it today started out in software development, and that continues to be the biggest area where agile approaches are being leveraged. As a result, it is where a lot of the AI-driven disruption is having an impact.
The use of AI developers is becoming commonplace, with the belief that they can produce code more quickly and more consistently than humans can. AI has been able to leverage the trends toward low-code and no-code environments that have emerged over the last several years. And we are now seeing significant disruption in how code is developed.
That’s not just an agile thing, but it does have a number of repercussions for how agile projects are delivered.
Rethinking code development
This isn’t intended to be an anti-AI article. Artificial intelligence clearly has a place in all forms of work, and software development is an area where the potential is perhaps greater than most.
However, it isn’t the magic bullet solution that some people are viewing it as. To understand why, we have to go back to basics and think about what actually happens when project team members develop code as part of a solution.
