Rat Guided Through Maze Via Electrodes in Brain: Are Developers Next? (Part 2)

In the last installment, we referenced a successful experiment by the State University of New York and Drexel University where they attached electrodes to the brain of a rat and, by stimulating pleasure and touch centers, guided it through a maze. Taking the lead from this research, gantthead Project Management Labs in New Jersey have begun brain electrode experiments on developers. Future experimentation will include:
  • Analysts. Pleasure centers in the brain will be stimulated when subjects get complete and accurate requirements. Pain centers will be stimulated when they try to pass off a vague requirement.
  • Stakeholders. Pain centers will be stimulated when subjects take workers from the project or attempt to change the scope. Pleasure centers will be stimulated at extremely high levels when subjects see the project's actual expenditure report.
  • Users. Pleasure centers in the brain will be stimulated when they see whatever deliverable they are provided.

Until this important scientific work is completed and approved by appropriate federal agencies, you will have to use other methods to improve your control over individuals and teams. As we saw in the previous article, these methods require you, at times, to let go of tight controls, allowing top performers to work their magic and average performers to become top performers.
