About Your Project Communication Plan...Can We Talk?
We always hear how bad communication wrecked a project--or just made it miserable to manage. There is much less discussion on how to make life easier, which evidently explains the former situation. In a project, the foundation for good communication is the project communication plan.
We can expect the same types of communications problems unless we do something with the Communications Plan. You may recognize some of these examples:
- Stakeholders missed when important information was distributed.
- Certain stakeholders were left out entirely in the communications plan.
- Too much communication as everyone receives voluminous reports with little or unclear relevance to them.
- You do not receive as good communication as you provide to others.
All we need is a way to define our Communications Plan so that all the problems above are solved, and so that meaningful, targeted information is regularly sent to and received from stakeholders. If the plan stimulates involvement and participation, so much the better.
Too much to ask? Maybe not. If you do the proper research early, you can refine any generic communication plan template used in your organization. Obtain the necessary details by creating a table with the following columns.
