You Can Observe a Lot Just By Watching!
It's everywhere! I'm totally convinced that no matter where you look there are opportunities for knowledge management to add value. Some are more obvious than others, and some certainly have more potential than others, but the opportunities are ubiquitous.
So once a year I like to look around and see where knowledge is being created and comment on how KM can help leverage it to help the bottom line. And what better place to look that right in our own proverbial back yard--right here at ganthead. So let's take a little tour of what has been happening in some of the other GH departments and explore the KM implications.
Our first stop (just moving alphabetically down the department list) is Business Intelligence. In his article Tunes of Technology, GH'er Vijay Sankaran suggests that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with its ongoing copyright infringement crackdown on online file sharers, may be missing a great opportunity to really learn more about the newest (and next) generations of music buyers, customers who are "e-savvy" and want their music in more portable and malleable formats. They no longer want to go to music stores and buy individual CDs or singles. They want to listen to tunes on the Web, custom-build CDs with their favorite tunes and share cool songs in real-time with their friends. They have formed whole new communities
