An Educational Experience
The student winners of the Exelon Project Management Capstone Award demonstrated that their cost-saving technology concept has real-world application and profit potential in the workplace. And they hope to prove it down the road.
In July 2004, Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVryUniversity named Beth Saltmarsh and Ramses Banda as recipients of the 2004 Exelon Project Management Capstone Award. The national award is presented annually to the team of students whose comprehensive plan best demonstrates the ability to apply project management tools and techniques to situations representative of those in the workplace.
The winning project, called "ID-CABLE: Solutions for a Networked Environment," included designing and testing a new prototype that would help quickly identify the location of a potential problem with a data cable. The ID-CABLE was created with a small light enhancement display on both ends of the cable, so that, in the event of a problem with one single cable in a server room containing hundreds of other cables, the problem cable could be quickly and easily identified. The students hope to use their data patch cable complex tracing device to collaborate with manufacturers to produce the ultimate product.
