As companies struggle with the challenges of managing and analyzing large amounts of information, many are looking at the option of sending their information to a third party to analyze the information, develop complex models and send them the results.
 
Companies like Acxiom, Digimine, Medstat and Quaero are beginning to specialize in hosted data analysis in highly focused areas such as CRM and medical diagnostics. By focusing on a specific niche of analytical solutions, they can bring highly skilled talent and develop services that deliver the highest amount of ROI to the end customer. These sorts of specialized niche providers continue to grow and will undoubtedly stake out a larger share of the analytic solutions marketplace. The prime question is whether sourcing this data to a third party is a smart strategic move for the corporation--and whether it will generate the highest value overall value for the enterprise.
 
To determine when sourcing analytical capabilities makes sense and when it does not make sense, a framework of factors is important to consider. The following characters should be used when considering the sourcing strategy for specific areas of analytics:
