Who’s minding the shop? When it comes to IT project governance, the question might go unanswered. A better question is who should be minding the shop? On that, you’ll certainly get a heated debate.
 
The encompassing umbrella of corporate governance for an organization involves the standard discipline structure that revolves around the processes traditionally handled by board-level executives. While this may work for companies that are less dependent upon the development of technological advancements, an IT-centric firm strongly benefits by having a more sympathetic leadership.
 
This means that a more knowledgeable and “been there, done that” experienced team needs to be in place so they can quickly and intelligently act on and respond to situations that require their attention. Sometimes thrust into circumstances that make them the point of first contact for the company, executives that run an organization that uses software and/or hardware as a leading component of their marketability need to be more than just “familiar” with the technical strengths--as well as limitations, complexity and key aspects of their service and product base and their industry at large.
