If you think compliance obstacles, goals and requirements were tough in 2006 and 2007, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. New technology, more security threats and a whole mess of new variables will be complicating the issue next year for IT project managers and decision makers.

Manish Goel--senior vice president and general manager, data protection and retention solutions, network appliance--of Network Appliance, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based IT consulting company, says that some of the toughest obstacles will revolve around data security and compliance. Goel is responsible for disk-to-disk backup, disaster recovery, compliance and digital archival product portfolios at the $3 billion data management company.
Goel insists that all companies will have to deal with the following four pain points:
