It’s a brand new Web out there.
 
Sure, it uses a lot of the same tools and techniques, but a more “social” Web is getting a foothold, taking people to new directions and involving them in its evolution.
 
As memory and storage continue to increase to accommodate our largest files, our capacity to generate information is in a dead heat behind it. Many have become disenchanted with the Web and how it is no longer considered a repository and identified as being more like a garbage dump. As an example, take a look at computer you are using to access this article – is everything residing on it nice and orderly and easy to find? Now take that example and multiply it a billion-fold and you have an idea of the tangled mess we have been creating for ourselves.
 
There are automated tools out there that try and make sense of everything, but their abilities only go so far. Can an application look at an image file and define its beauty? Is there a utility that can listen to a sound file and tell us that it is a masterpiece? Their ability to perceive and interpret is still somewhat limited.
 
Until another great leap in computer intelligence takes place, it looks like the human brain will need to help make sense of all the bits stored here and there on servers around the world.
