Promoting Projects When Budgets are Slashed

IT consulting firm Gartner Research recently reported that rather than cancel projects altogether, IT managers have been postponing and scaling back projects. IT spending likely will decline 3.7 percent in 2009, according to Gartner, with drops of nearly 15 percent in spending on technology equipment--specifically, laptops, desktops, servers, storage and printing systems. In 2010, the IT consulting firm expects IT spending on computing equipment to rebound, recording a 2.4 percent growth spurt. IT hardware spending, however, will record only a meager growth rate of 0.8 percent.
The proverbial bottom line: Promoting projects under these conditions is tougher than ever. Yet seasoned professionals find creative ways to solve the problem. We’re going to look at a few that lead to successful outcomes.
