A new book focuses on achieving success through collaboration instead of hierarchical processes. The author says most project leaders already understand this approach and can apply the techniques to integrate winning strategies with effective execution.

 
Although “The New How: Creating Business Solutions Through a Collaborative Strategy” was just released in January, the book is resonating with readers seeking a practical, human-centered approach to developing strategies. The the book, published by O’Reilly Media, is entering its second printing already.
 
Just what is attracting such an audience? A new path to collaboration, which enables companies to capitalize on opportunities quickly without getting bogged down in minutia, indecision and process, says the book’s author, Nilofer Merchant.
 
Merchant’s insights on applying strategic thinking and innovation have garnered awards and accolades. Grounded by 20 years of experience in leadership positions at top technology firms such as Apple and Autodesk, Merchant is founder and CEO of Rubicon Inc., a Los Gatos, Calif.-based consulting firm that specializes in areas including strategic planning, product strategy, marketing segmentation and value proposition development.
